Corrective Actions

The Lake Valley Handicap Committee offers the following to help you post your scores in compliance with posting requirements.

If you are uncertain regarding the requirements for posting scores or the methods for doing so, please consult the “SCORE POSTING” summary sheet near the handicap computer, or on this web site.  The answers to most posting questions will be available there.  If more help is needed, any member of the Handicap Committee will gladly provide assistance.

Any rounds played during our “inactive season” at courses that were located in an area that was in its “active season” should be posted by the beginning of our  “active season”.  When possible, it is usually best to post all of your  “away” scores immediately after the round using the handicap computer at the course played.

The most common score posting problems encountered at Lake Valley Golf Club include:

  1. Failure to post scores.
  2. Posting incorrect scores due to failure to correctly apply Equitable Stroke Control or simple errors in addition.
  3. Failure to post Tournament scores as Tournament scores.

The USGA Handicap System is what makes it possible for golfers of all levels to compete equitably.  This is lost if some players do not post scores appropriately.

The Handicap Committee has the responsibility of making certain that a player’s USGA Handicap Index reflects his potential ability. As a part of carrying out that responsibility, The Handicap Committee does perform a variety of audits to assure that players are complying with the handicap posting requirements.  This is more difficult to perform than normal peer review, and cannot be expected to uncover all inaccuracies.  Therefore, when an audit by the Handicap Committee discovers a problem, you can expect that action will be taken.

Several actions are available to the Handicap Committee.  These actions must be taken to protect the integrity of our handicaps and to allow us to continue as a Golf Club to issue USGA Handicap Indexes.

These actions include:

  1. Posting a score for a player that the player failed to post.
  2. Correcting a score for a player that was incorrectly posted as to strokes, type of score, or the like.
  3. Posting a penalty score for a player who has not correctly followed posting requirements.  A penalty score is normally a score and rating equal to the lowest handicap differential in the players scoring record.  If a player fails to post an unusually high score, a penalty score and rating equal to the highest handicap differential in the players scoring record can be posted.
  4. Adjusting the Handicap Index of a player.  A USGA Handicap Index shall be adjusted up or down if the player does not turn in all acceptable scores or otherwise does not observe the spirit of the USGA Handicap System.  The Handicap Committee will determine the amount of adjustment.
  5. Withdrawal of a player’s USGA Handicap Index.  If a player continues to fail to observe the spirit of the USGA Handicap System, the Handicap Committee is authorized and encouraged to consider withdrawal of the player’s Handicap Index.

Before any of the last three of these actions become effective, the Handicap Committee will give the player an opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding the cause of the proposed action either in writing or by appearing before the Handicap Committee.

Please do your best to assure that you and your playing companions comply with handicap posting requirements so our handicap competitions can be equitable.
